Courses pandeireta & gaita
From the end of September, I will be teaching a beginners’ pandeireta course at Muziekpublique. You will learn the basic technique of the Galician pandeireta and the main traditional rhythms, including the muiñeira, jota, pasodoble and rumba.
The course focuses on playing together, both with other percussion instruments such as the tambor and bombo, and of course with the Galician gaita, or bagpipe.
The gaita course is taught by Raphael De Cock. As both courses take place on the same evening, we will organise joint playing sessions, helping students develop a better feel for Galician music and ensemble playing.
A Contrabanda
A Contrabanda is a Brussels-based Galician folk band, or banda de gaitas. We perform traditional Galician folk music on gaita and percussion, with a touch of singing and dancing.
In 2027, we will celebrate our 25th anniversary. Over the years, we have performed at festivals including the Dranouter and Marsinne folk festivals, Celtes en Ouche in Normandy and Euroceltes Strasbourg.
